Editorial Policy

CostFAQ is an AI-assisted price-research project operated from Canada. Our guides help readers compare service scope, price units and written quotes. Unless stated otherwise, dollar amounts refer to US dollars and US services.

What Counts As Evidence

We prefer the service provider’s own rate card, booking page, published terms or dated PDF. Industry surveys and third-party cost guides may provide context, but they are identified as secondary estimates. A search snippet, an AI answer or a competing article is not a substitute for reading the cited source.

A useful price record identifies the provider, service area, amount, currency, unit, included work, exclusions and observation date. Advertised starting prices are not customer invoice averages. We do not combine unlike units or service packages into an unsupported national average.

Our Contribution

CostFAQ adds quote worksheets, transparent worked calculations, scope comparisons and source-linked observations. Worked examples use stated assumptions and are labeled illustrative. They are not claimed to be purchased services, customer invoices, product tests or first-hand experience.

AI Use And Accountability

AI assists with research, drafting, calculations and site maintenance. The label CostFAQ Editorial Team identifies the site’s publishing account; it does not represent a panel of independently credentialed specialists. We do not claim that every article has been reviewed by a human subject-matter expert. The site operator is responsible for publication and corrections.

Dates, Rechecks And History

An observation date is when a source was examined, not necessarily when a provider introduced a price. A page’s publication date, editorial update date and price observation date can differ. An editorial rewrite alone does not make old prices newly verified.

Historical records are dated snapshots. An unchanged value on two observation dates means no change was observed between those checks; it is not proof that the price was unchanged throughout the interval. A new provider or service package cannot establish a price trend for an older one. We do not backfill unobserved dates.

Our target is to recheck retailer prices about every 60 days and broader service prices about every 90 days. This is a maintenance target, not a guarantee of continuous automated monitoring. Readers should use the actual observation date shown and confirm the final price with the provider.

Corrections And Commercial Independence

Send corrections to admin@costfaq.com with the article URL, disputed detail and a public supporting source. Material corrections should identify the affected amount, scope or calculation. We do not fabricate testimonials, professional credentials, customer experiences or evidence.

Advertising does not determine our price conclusions. Affiliate or sponsored links, when present, must be disclosed near the recommendation. Ordinary source links are citations and should not be interpreted as endorsements. See our About page, Contact page and Privacy Policy.

Policy updated October 29, 2026.

Source-review queue and public corrections

AI pricing and usage rules enter a weekly source-review queue and an additional check after an announced change. Promotional prices are checked against their stated expiry. Other retail and service observations retain the 60/90-day targets above. Due records are marked for review; a page rewrite does not renew a source date.

A reproducible example

The Discount Auto Parts record preserves its $75 up-to-five-quart synthetic package and $10 extra-quart menu. A seven-quart illustration computes $75 + 2 × $10 = $95 before unconfirmed charges. The required quantity is an assumption, not a vehicle test; tax and other unknown fees remain blank in the tool.

The article evidence table, data explorer and CSV read the same record IDs. A later observation of the same package can reference the prior ID. Records for other providers cannot establish that package’s price movement.

Correction log

  • October 19, 2026: corrected Cursor’s monthly-only reset summary and generic Auto charging explanation. The guide now distinguishes plan families and routing modes; the policy change’s effective date was not established.
  • October 19, 2026: connected dated service observations to the shared explorer and quote tools. Older source dates remain unchanged.

See publishing responsibility and report a correction. This public log records material corrections; it does not claim every source is monitored continuously.

October 28, 2026 corrections

Marked the Gemini API Veo previews as historical after their October 22 shutdown. Added the previously omitted GPT-4.1 mini retirement schedule and Gemini 2.5 access restriction. Retained dated prices and noted the unresolved Runway Turbo source discrepancy. Thirteen scheduled sources were rechecked; the next target is November 4. A source-review target is not continuous monitoring.

Final editorial review on October 28: added the Sam’s Club Plus four-tire installation exception after reading the official package terms; the date the exception began was not established. Removed an over-broad typical-price opening from the grooming guide and reconciled its method and evidence dates with the independent mobile-provider sample already added October 19. Renamed the RV winterization starting-price section to avoid implying a calculated national average. Corrected policy update labels; no historical price observations were redated.

Quote data and calculator follow-up

October 28, 2026: split the Sam’s Club installation observations into the standard per-tire charge and the Plus four-tire offer. The October 19 record remains in history; this is a clarification of eligibility, not proof of a newly introduced price. State fees remain unconfirmed even where waste-tire disposal is included.

The quote calculator now clears prior source attribution when an illustrative example or a different service replaces the inputs. A source-linked comparison export retains its observation ID, source URL, date and conditions. The Plus offer’s four-tire requirement and source-currency mismatch are checked before the tool presents a complete comparison. These checks do not independently confirm membership, vehicle compatibility or the provider’s final quote.

The AI video guide now leads with current Runway Gen-4.5 API usage calculations instead of retired Gemini preview prices. It distinguishes generation charges, subscription allocation and cash commitments; historical observations remain labeled. Runway API pricing, web pricing, model credits, credit rules and Google’s shutdown notice were checked.

The RV winterization guide no longer converts a small, mixed-location sample into a general $150-$200 budget. A Lightnin service-menu recheck supports the new conditional winter/spring arithmetic. Other records retain their original dates. The contact page now specifies what is useful for a price or calculator correction and what personal information not to send.

These are source reviews and independently calculated examples, not purchases, field tests, customer feedback or evidence of user demand. Unknown fees remain unknown. No claim is made that these changes ensure advertising approval.
