Identify your Cursor subscription before choosing a reset date. Paid X Subscription plans have a weekly included pool; legacy Cursor plans reset monthly with their billing cycle. Your account’s Usage or Spending screen shows the applicable next reset. Source checked October 19, 2026: Cursor usage and limits.
Which plan and allowance are you using?
| Account family | Included usage | After the limit |
|---|---|---|
| Paid X Subscription | Weekly Cursor-model pool shared across the named Cursor and Grok apps; third-party access on Premium and above is separately charged | Check prepaid credit, the next weekly reset, or a different plan |
| Legacy Cursor plans | Monthly Cursor Models and Other Models pools; Start includes only the former | Check on-demand settings and the billing-cycle reset |
Unused included usage does not roll over. Prepaid credit is distinct from included allowance and has its own expiry. Free-account restrictions can differ; use the limits shown for that account. Do not treat a subscription renewal, an allowance reset and a credit purchase as the same event.
Auto and your own API key need a separate check
Cost mode (classic Auto) draws from the Cursor-model pool. Teams/Enterprise Router modes Balance and Intelligence can charge the routed third-party model at its list price. Named third-party subagents can also create separate usage. Individual bring-your-own-key model charges go to the provider; Teams/Enterprise can additionally incur the Cursor Token Rate. Official charging distinctions.
Read an unexpected charge in five steps
- Record the account family and exact plan name from your own account.
- Match the charge to the company that issued the invoice. Keep provider API bills separate from Cursor’s invoice.
- Match the request time to the allowance window shown in Usage or Spending. Record the time zone.
- Inspect model, Router mode, subagent and own-key details rather than assuming the visible parent model explains every request.
- Compare actual consumption with credit purchases and spending controls. A top-up can remain partly unused.
Budget consumption separately from money added
Consider an invented ledger: an opening prepaid balance of $8, a $20 top-up, and $11 of consumption leave $17 before any expiry or adjustment. Cash added is $20; consumption is $11. Adding both as if they were two usage expenses would double count. These amounts are illustrative inputs, not Cursor prices or a tested invoice.
For a monthly legacy plan, keep the base subscription charge on its own line and add only verified on-demand usage. For a weekly allowance, do not multiply a single unusually busy week by four and call that an observed monthly invoice. Use several completed periods or label the forecast assumption.
Check controls before paying for more
Read the current usage-based charges and controls for your plan. Note whether continued work draws from prepaid credit or on-demand billing, what limit applies, and who can change it on a team. Confirm the next reset in your dashboard before deciding whether waiting is practical.
If the invoice still cannot be reconciled, give support the plan, date, time zone and the relevant request/invoice references. Redact keys, private prompts and payment details. Keep a copy of the displayed settings for your own records.

Review and correction record
October 19, 2026: corrected the earlier monthly-only opening and generic Auto description after rechecking official documentation. October 6 remains the first observation date. The official page did not establish the change’s effective date in this review. We have not purchased or tested the plans. AI rules enter a weekly source-review queue; an observation date is not a guarantee that rules will remain unchanged.
October 28, 2026: re-read the linked official sources. Historical observations and calculations retain their original dates. No purchase, API execution or quality benchmark was performed. Next source-review target: November 4, 2026.
